July ACUG/ADDG meeting
The July meeting of ACUG/ADUG will be on July 26. As usual, we will provide a dinner for those in attendance, starting at 5:00, with the meeting starting at 6:00. Please reply to this email to let us know if you will be in attendance, so that we may plan the amount of food.
The Atlanta Clarion Users Group will continue hosting a number of meetings this month on the subject of "mashing" Clarion development with the open source GPL licensed Content Management System called Drupal. ( http://drupal.org )
We believe this to be an excellent opportunity to web enable data from Clarion applications into a secure web site system. Order systems, customer inquiries, and outside sales support are a few of the applications that could be the result of this workshop effort.
The meetings will be to familiarize Clarion Developers with the workings of Drupal, but will be producing actual work shop results that can be packaged into profiles which can then be easily applied to other Drupal installations using "profiles".
Profiles are a powerful function of Drupal. They allow a developer to provide a base line installation of modules settings and data structures that can be added to the basic Drupal installation.
We will provide Linux servers with Apache server and PostgreSQL installed. If there is enough requests we would also provide MySQL as a database option. It should not matter which of the two is used the backend is transparent to the Drupal system user.
We are limiting the numbers of attendees to under ten. This should facilitate a more cohesive set of needs within the group. The first meeting will be used to establish a base line for the needs and interests of the group.
A willingness to develop "on the fly" and try new things is must quality to bring. Some knowledge of PHP may be helpful. A desire to work with others to come to a better understanding is also necessary. As always we welcome others who are new to Clarion as well.
